N.I. Schools Orienteering Championships at Drum Manor
For the last orienteering event of the year, year 6 travelled to Cookstown to complete a 10 controls course through Drum Manor forest park. The first pair started at 10.30 am and the winning pair had completed the course within 13 minutes! On average it took most pairs over 20 mins to complete the course. Their was some tricky map reading, especially control 5 hidden up in a forest clearing. However most of the children proved their fitness and their map reading skills to finish in very good times! Several other schools also took part. The weather was beautiful, the forest was awash with bluebells and we saw baby mallard ducks and cygnets on the lake too. After we finished the competition, the children relaxed in a state of the art playground, had a picnic lunch and finished with a walk around the Butterfly Garden and the ruins of the Manor House. A fun day out!
