Read Write Inc Phonics programme

12th Sep 2017

Last year your children were involved in a phonics programme called Read Write Inc Phonics. Your child was involved in structured and paced lessons designed to help the pupils have fun learning phonics but also using them in their daily literacy work. This was very successful, with many pupils making amazing progress in acquiring their phonics skills quickly, which they will use daily in reading and spelling.

This year we are developing the programme further by grouping the pupils in years 2,3 and 4 per their abilities in using phonics. They will then work through an intense 6 week programme of lessons before being assessed and then regrouped according to their progress. Your child will be in a group with children from other year groups.

The programme is designed to teach phonics to pupils at a level of instruction that suits their learning abilities. Each group will contain a mixture of pupils from different years who have achieved the same level of phonic skills so that they can work together. Once the pupils have achieved their full range of phonic skills, they have finished the programme and will work within the schools literacy curriculum as usual.

The programme will include learning and possibly written homework to support learning. If you would like more information about the programme or you have any queries, please get in touch the Literacy Co-ordinator, Mrs Joan Clements or the Foundation and Key stage 1 Co-ordinator , Mrs Judy Duddy.
